Craig Y Nos Country Park
We met up with Cath and Paul on a damp cloudy day in March to capture their pre-wedding photoshoot at Craig Y Nos Country Park. However, the weather did nothing to dampen any of our spirits. How could it at this impressive 40-acre Victorian country park in the Brecon Beacons. This gorgeous park has shady woodlands, meadows, ponds and lawns spread along the banks of the River Tawe. It was the perfect location for Cath and Paul’s romantic photoshoot.

A pre-wedding photoshoot is always a good idea as it’s a chance for couples to get to know their photographer. Many couples tell us that they feel uncomfortable being photographed or that they never like pictures of themselves. A pre-wedding shoot is an opportunity to fix all of these worries. It’s a chance for them to get used to us photographing them and if they need it, we can give them tips to help them to be more comfortable in front of the camera. So that it won’t be an issue on their wedding day.

For Cath and Paul, it was especially useful, as they are getting married at Craig Y Nos Castle in May. The castle and the park share the same grounds. This meant that we could walk through their favourite spots and choose the locations we would use on the day. Making plans for both wet and dry weather.

Cath and Paul were so easy-going and relaxed to work with. Nothing was too much trouble and the pre-wedding photoshoot felt like taking a walk with some friends. And they bought their two sweet dogs Baxter & Ernie with them. We always welcome dogs at photoshoots. We find they relax our couples and give the images authenticity, as they just show a couple enjoying a weekend walk as they would normally. But of course, looking their absolute best!
We started by taking a walk along by the river, and then captured some images in the riverside wooden structure where visitors stop to observe the ducks. We then moved onto a wooden bridge that crosses the river and got some great images there. Before heading into the woodland to get some images of Cath and Paul in the mature trees.

For the most part, Baxter & Ernie (dogs) behaved, though towards the end we did get some diva behaviour as they refused to sit for Cath & Paul for most of the images.
We spent a lovely hour with Cath and Paul and got a set of great images that we and they are thrilled with. Many of our couples go on to use the images in their wedding stationery like invitations, guest books and thank you cards.
We’ll next see Cath and Paul when we capture their wedding at Craig Y Nos Castle in May. And I think we’re looking forward to it as much as they are!
